Popped and poured and drank over 1 1/2 hours Nose: Initial hits of chocolate, coal, tobacco covered with dried red berries
Taste: Nice tang of acid, very fresh and delicious strawberries which later developed into more cranberry notes. A eucalyptus midpalate and a chalk mineral-esque finish. Overall very vibrant, but I would recommend consuming this within the hour as it is become more unapproachable and smells like used cigarette butt. My first Aussie wine from the Morington Peninsula, a placed with many boutique wineries littered all around. Read the vintage notes and the I concur with the winemaker about the last minute brisk bout of hot weather giving an added ripeness to the wine. 14% Pinot Noir is something I’m not too used to, but the alcohol was kept in check quite well. Took this bottle to a tasting where there was going to be a lot of pizza. I was very hesitant because the other bottle I had was horribly corked. This was very old world in style, not really a Super Tuscan style that I would expect from 2004 – let alone comparing it to a wonderful wine like the 04 Tignanello… The nose had aromas of currant, cherry, earth and some brett. The palate showed flavors of cherry, cranberry, brett and tobacco. This just wasn’t anything that really made me excited. (87 pts.) – Tasted 1/31/2010.

Medium full red/purple color. Big forward nose of black cherry and boysenberry with some overtones of sulphur and burnt oak. Tight dusty tannic black cherry on the palate with a searing finish.
