1991 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle

Tasted after the ’96, this was something of a disappointment. Gave hardly anything on the nose at first, and lacked much flavor though the texture at least gave some pleasure.
Only as we were finishing the bottle did it show signs of life. Nice earthy tobacco aromas and flavors, some mineral, and black fruit. Anise spices. About a 90 at this point, but I’m withholding the score given my feeling that we didn’t drink it right.
I think the wine is fine and could take a few more years, but if you open one, be patient and watch for it to open up. It’s a little tricky. – Tasted 12/27/2009. $ FIND THIS WINE on WINE-SEARCHER.COM $
