N.V. Taittinger Champagne Prelude Grand Cru

(88 pts.) – Tasted 5/27/2009.

2006 Evesham Wood Pinot Noir Le Puits Sec

This is another style that I enjoy when it’s well executed as it is here. Lighter in body but the flavor builds as it usually does in a fine burgundy, w/red raspberry, cranberry, pomegranate on the palate and strawberry in the nose. This slides down easily and lasts in your sense memory. Well done. (91 pts.) – Tasted 5/19/2009.

N.V. Ruinart Champagne Blanc de Blancs

BBR Champagne tasting. ?75 per bottle. I understand that this house is fairly unknown here, but is very popular in France. Very similar lemon-gold appearance to the others. Mousse is very fine and lively with persistent small bubbles, although it doesn’t actually taste as “fizzy” as its predecessors. This nose is different from the others, with distinctive Chardonnay aromas of honey and nuts, and light (not overpowering) traces of tropical fruits like pineapple and grapefruit. The palate is medium-light (lighter than the others due to 100% Chardonnay), but any lack of body is masked by the delicious mousse. No hugely strong flavours on the palate, but more grapefruitty aspects, plus some refreshing apple. Medium-good finish. Good. – Tasted 5/16/2009.

Tasted at Oiniphiloi Wine Club during a masterclass on how Greek reds age.
Surprisingly good, at its peak right now with a fairly dark color with some garnet-brick hues, ripe tomatoe and some red fruits on the nose, mid-bodied on the palate with very soft tanins, nice fruit and balancing acidity. Fairly long finish. Nicely aged. (88 pts.) – Tasted 5/11/2009.

Dark brick red colour. Beautiful cool climate nose of pepper, spice and red currants. Similar palate with nice oak handling, lots of fruit and chewy tannins, long finish. Great example of Granite Belt shiraz. (90 pts.) – Tasted 5/9/2009.
