About ?165 (!) per bottle. Not decanted. 80% Merlot; 20% Cabernet Franc. Youthful, intense purple appearance: looks like a New World wine. Soft, plummy nose, with vanilla notes too. Also a wealth of supple red fruits (no hiding the Merlot factor). The palate is surprisingly tannic for a Right Bank wine (although of course this is a 2005 in its infancy). But because of the wealth of very ripe fruit, it is nonetheless quite forward. Very much a New Word style in the heart of the Old World. Very good indeed but that is quite a price tag. Light yellow color. Exciting, intense nose with pure yellow fruits, a dessert-like touch like lemon curd or fromage, flowers and hand crème. On the palate the attack is tart, sour citrus fruits, but then it broadens on the midpalate and finish with sweeter fruits, minerals, salt, seaweed and finally a smoky, flinty note. Razor-sharp acidity that lifts up the taste and makes it refreshing and extremely elegant at the same time. Amazing how much fruit, minerals, spice and zing this has at once.
