Very deep ruby core with thin, pale ruby rim. Lots of wood on the nose: cedar, mothballs, coconut, butter, and a bit of blueberry jam. Very un-Margaret River. Essentially dry on the palate, with plenty of acidity and only medium amount of tannins. Have I mentioned the oak already? There’s lots more of it on the palate: coconut cream pie, cedar, with a diacetyl finish. Yes, there’s also some fruit here (blueberry and raspberry, with an interesting, minty note), but it is largely overwhelmed by the wine’s hardwood finish. Although I felt this wine actually had something to say, I could not see the forest for the trees. (78 pts.) – Tasted 4/16/2008.
