From the off this had good blackcurrant aromas which followed through on the palate. The texture was velvet smooth with just a hint of tartness on the finish. It was quite a big wine but in balance. If I had a quibble, it was a lack of complexity. – Tasted 1/6/2008.

Wow! This exotic spice rack, filled perfume is intoxicating. Cinnamon, anise, cloves, tobacco, plums, coffee, truffle, dark chocolate, violets and more scream from the glass. And that’s just the opening act. The real deal is when this silk drenched wine floods your palate with velvety textures. This intense wine offers purity, balance, finesse and harmony made even better by decadent, syrupy, spicy fruit that remains on your palate for close to 50 seconds! So this is Petrus. It was a pleasure to finally meet you. If I don’t get to see you again, please know, I had a great time spending the night together. (98 pts.) – Tasted 1/5/2008.

Brick disc with a medium-ruby robe; light red fruits, minerality, dark chocolate, some game; not as fragrant as expected, but elegant. Some citrus notes; apples on the finish. Technically fine. Drank with mustard-encrusted rack of lamb, Christmas rice, and beets. The food overpowered the wine – serving the wine with something simpler would have likely flattered it more. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this one. Purchased (not by me) for $55, which I thought to be a pretty fair price. – Tasted 1/4/2008.

Excellent aroma, amazingly Medoc-like. Slender but delicious ripe fruit. 91P (91 pts.) – Tasted 1/1/2008.
